Corporate Information

The beginning of our products was set during 1980. Based on the Bulgarian traditions and various scientific developments prior to 1980 the creation of conceptionally new type of products was established, which combined the effects of probiotics and functional food. These new products were based on the Bulgarian tradition of yoghurt production, a tradition recognised all over the wold that results in the production of the best yoghurt in the world. The programme was headed by prof. Nikola Alexandrov, a leading scientist in this field.

The products were originally intended for Russian and Bulgarian space programmes, for use by special army forces and for use under extreme conditions.

The probiotics and functional food were exported in the countries of the ex-Souviet block. Due to these facts they were treated as strictly confidential and were produced by a state owned factory for the needs of the army until 1998, when the confidential status was released.

In 2000 Daflorn Ltd. was established as 100% privately owned company with the sole aim of further development, manufacturing and marketing the products under the brand name Biomilk.

Investors

The company is 100% privately owned. Daflorn Ltd. does not have depts and is not publicly traded on any stock markets.

Management

Daflorn Ltd. is managed by two directors – prof. Nikola Alexandrov and D-r Daniela Petrova.

Industrial & Intelectual Property

All products marked by Daflorn Ltd. are protected by 32 patents and 8 trade marks. The intangible assets of the company are valued at 10 mln. Euro. The intelectual property developments is the leading path of Daflorn Ltd. All products have been experimentally developed and clinically tested in leading medical institutions in Bulgaria – The Medical Universities of Sofia, Varna and Pleven cities; N. Pirogov NIUMT (National Institute of Urgent Medical Treatments) - Sofia, Medical Military Academy – Sofia, Bulgarian Academy of Scienes, National Center for Oncological Treatment – Sofia, National Hygiene Center, Medical Institute of Ecology and Feeding – Sofia and other scientific and research institutes. The products have been a subject of cooperative development with leading scientists from the Medical Military Academy in St. Petersburg – Russia, Vurtsburg Medical University – Germany, Medical Military Academy Hradec Kralove – Czech Republic, Medical Military Academy – Warsaw, Poland, Meiji Corporation – Japan.

The products have been clinically tested both on healthy people – air force pilots, submarine crews as well as volunteers placed in a simulated ship wreck sitation and simulated incidents in the air.

The clinical experiments have been conducted with patients suffering brain trauma, skin burns and various intoxications, including patients suffering from the results of alchohol and drugs intake, virus originating hepatitis, septic conditions, heavy allergic and toxic-allergic disseases, etc.

The products have been tested for embryo-toxicity and radio-protective effect by animal experiments.

The results have been presented at various prestigious scientific forums and conferences in Europe: Rome, Budapest, Bucharest, Paris, Athenes, Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Moscow; Asia and Africa: Istanbul, Tripoly, Baghdad, Tokyo; America: Philladelphia, Havana, etc.

The products are certified by the Ministry of Health of Republic of Bulgaria.

The strains contained in the products are registered with the Bulgarian National Bank for Microorganisms and Cell Cultures and are not genetically modified.

Currently Daflorn Ltd. manufactures and markets 27 products – 11 types of probiotical functional food, 6 types probiotics in capsules, 5 types of synbiotics (prebiotics and probiotics) in capsules and 5 types of probiotical cosmetic products (facial masks). Thirteen of the product types have been released in the beggining of 2004 and by the end of 2004 we are planning to release 7 additional types groupped in 2 new product brands.

Markets

Through our own network of resellers or through our agents the products are currently being sold in Bulgaria, Russia, South Africa, Vietnam, Poland, Belgium, Ukraine, Libiya and Iran.

Manufacturing Facilities

Currently all of the 27 products are manufactured in the area Sofia city (Novy Han village). They are also produced under a licence at Elby Bulgaricum Plc., Lactina Ltd. and Kendy Ltd.

Daflorn’s priority is the technological development and covering the highly set international standards of the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) under which standards the company is certified.

The product Biostim (the predecessor of Biomilk) is a winner of the prestigious golden medal of the Plovdiv Fair and is a winner of the “Golden Apple” award for ecologically clean product.
